APHASIC (junk/ambush uk/nl ) live
"This is about the most electric and instantaneous high that music can provide."
Keith Cameron from The New Musical Express on "Bass & Superstructure", the APHASIC release on Ambush
Look for the most radical signals from the digital underground and you will discover a mutant crossover of genres, a highly infectious mix of influences that resists shop-floor categorisation. DJ and producer APHASIC has been moving through this dynamic acoustic zone for several years, and is recognised as a pioneering proponent of fast and hard, funky and fucked-up party music.
Taking differing measures of drum & bass, hardcore techno, hip-hop, dancehall ragga, gabber and dub, APHASIC constructs music that is dark, groovy and highly infectious. Most of all, it marks itself out as an essential assault on the hyper conservative landscape of contemporary culture.
Since 1996 APHASIC has co-run the label Ambush with DJ Scud, releasing their own and others' material. Ambush has since become hugely influential, inspiring a whole generation of lo-fi producers. Now based in the Netherlands, in 2003 APHASIC started his own label Junk, dedicated to exploring further the gap between the dancefloor and the avant-garde. Junk 01 included three APHASIC tracks and an APHASIC collaboration with Dutch breakcore producer BONG-RA. Future releases are planned with more young artists from the Lowlands.
Determined to push electronic dance music to new extremes, APHASIC's music continues to defy any easy categorisation. As one Junk slogan goes, the secret is to hear what you never heard before.
