::★ 20:00-21.30u BLUE LIONS ★::
During a concert we sing ancient compositions of Indian Classical Music known as Kirtan, some of which are hundreds of years old. These are devotional songs based upon melodies known as Ragas which invoke different emotions and feelings and are used for meditation. The songs are accompanied by rhythmic beats known as ‘Taal’ and vary from 6 to 16 beat cycles, and compliment the devotional songs. We start with instrumental music to create an ambience and mood before singing. We will also give simple explanations in English of what we are performing so the listeners can understand. The instruments we will be playing are the Taus (a bowed string instrument shaped like a peacock) and a set of Indian drums known as the Tabla.
