Merk & Kremont sign exclusive deal with Spinnin' Records - new single 'Upndown' comes out December 4th

Italian duo Merk & Kremont has signed an exclusive deal with Spinnin' Records. The highly popular DJ/production team is now a priority act for the Dutch dance label.

"Back when we started to produce electronic music, releasing a single on Spinnin' Records was a dream for us. Indeed, we are overwhelmed to be signing this exclusive deal with the Dutch label after only three years after our first release ever, but we haven't stopped dreaming, it's just that the dream gets bigger! We're working on new music so expect great things from us!"

With the release of 'Upndown' vs Gianluca Motta coming out december 4th on Spinnin' Records, the Italians prove they are one of the biggest up and coming acts of the moment. Again, the track is getting full DJ support way ahead of release, including praise from artists like Calvin Harris, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, David Guetta, Hardwell, Afrojack and VINAI.

Sonic Sound of Belfast || EP50: 'Statement of Intent' - 14 Belfast originals from Ejeca, JC Williams, Martin De Brig, Chris Hanna

Bubbling away since 2009, Extended Play Recordings have long been a label at the heart of Northern Ireland's thriving electronic underground, run with love by local heroes JMX and T-Bone. Marking a milestone in the label's history, Extended Play present to the world EP50 'Statement of Intent,' an album that captures the sonic sound of Belfast with fourteen original jams from NI's brightest stars. From banging techno weapons from the likes of Ejeca through to tripped out, dubby acid from emerging maestro JC Williams, EP50 represents a solid city scene about to show the world what it's all about.

Kicking off EP50 is 'Body Sing' from new signing Bloomer White, laced with nostalgic house and garage flavours, setting the tone for what is to come. Jordan takes deep house to a darker level on 'Want to Be' whilst local hero and ex Stiff Kitten resident Cromby explores intergalactic 80's synth-funk on 'Lucid Dancer.' Classic Recordings & Glasgow Underground kings Scoper & Bubba step up with 'Hot In the Valley' - a dancefloor delight with a disco pulse, then Extended Play founder JMX brings blissful vibes with jazzy piano track 'Catch the Feelin'.' Newcomer Sid Carey won over the EP crew after his victory in AVA Festival's production comp last year, and his contribution 'Machines' is an infectious, melodic addition.

Extended Play head honcho T-Bone jump starts the second half with 'Rich Dancing,' a grooving, sub heavy banger packing a big Belfast punch. The killer 'Eastside Rhythm' comes from Moodtrax who explores the darkest corners of club perfection, then Martin De Brig shows us his 'That Fucking Hands In The Air' masterpiece that blends 909 drums and acid blurred 303 noises with a soulful piano edge. Track ten is a Dancemania inspired 'Late Night Roll' from house and techno enthusiast Slurrp.

Chris Hanna brings the first techno missile with peak-time pounder 'B.K.I.T.B.' whilst giant NI export Ejeca presents a stripped back bomb of sonic proportions, already tune of the week by B.Traits on Radio One. A pioneer of the Belfast movement, JC Williams has released on Gerd's 4LUX imprint, Jackmaster's Ultimate Hits and Extended Play. 'Paradox' is his contribution to EP50, an analogue, acid-laced dream. Last but not least is 'Way Mon Tah' eerie techno courtesy of Cophin. But EP50 is about more than just the music, it's about the future, freedom and growing. In the words of T Bone & JMX:

"This release encapsulates a lot of what we love in late night electronics, represented across fourteen new Belfast originals. This is the soundtrack to a romp through our city and for once Belfast blowing up can only be seen as a positive. So this, our statement of intent for the future, we are excited about our scene and what lies in-store." T-Bone & JMX

Robert Babicz announces new label: DIRT CUTS

Electronic music is about to get dirty as revered artist, producer and studio boffin Robert Babicz, aka Rob Acid, launches a strictly limited-run, live production label DIRT CUTS.

Forget what you think you know about dance music. Forget loops and laptops, computers and coding, DIRT CUTS is raw, authentic, real, and above all, fearless. Debut release "A" drops on 20 November – the first of DIRT CUTS' 26 attempts to redefine the possibilities of 21st century electronic sound by recording live, improvised music produced without computers or sequencers.

Robert is revisiting the synths, drum machines and fx equipment he used in the '90s while performing and producing as Rob Acid to create a new electronic music alphabet based on improvisation and experimentation – a language where "mistakes" can be the root of the magic. DIRT CUTS will release 26 EPs, titled from A to Z, then close forever.

DIRT CUTS poses the provocative question: what can an artist achieve with simple tools? Though most of Rob Acid's work uses analogue equipment, DIRT CUTS takes this ethos a step further, stripping away modern computer technology to force Robert to confront himself as a creator and see how far he's come. It is a journey to discover what happens when old tools are handled with new wisdom, conscience and experience. Starting from scratch with each track, Robert will build a soundscape of rhythms, harmonies, shapes and colours using 90% analogue equipment to express the sonic visions of his youth, on synths he can finally afford. DIRT CUTS releases will be recorded on the iconic Studer A80 reel-to-reel machine. As a live performance, there is no chance to anticipate errors or instantly erase. Correcting a mistake during recording will mean rewinding, deleting and re-recording. Robert has taken the challenge of practicing and performing the tracks live, balancing the spontaneity of performance with the high production values and expectations of music fans in a digital age.
