Nobody Beats The Drum

Le Clic are Noah Pepper and Julien Chaptal. Noah was born in Amsterdam after his parents moved from the USA to Holland in the seventies. Julien, who grew up in Paris, moved to Amsterdam in 1999 after having lived in Texas and Montreal. The pair met each other in Amsterdam in the millennium year and soon found out that they shared a common desire and vision of producing music. A year after their first meeting they officially joined forces as Le Clic.
By that time each of them was already involved one way or another in Amsterdam s club scene where they were introduced to a long list of visiting DJ s and dance acts from around the globe and encouraged to start making music themselves. Apart from regular slots at the Milky Way club in Amsterdam, Noah DJ ed at clubs in cities like San Francisco and New York as well as festivals and events such as the renowned Sonar festival in Spain. His sets mainly consisted of drum n bass and house music but his DJ moniker Scratch n Sniff also referred to his scratching skills which he contributed to a few productions of other acts. Julian also worked as a DJ when he lived in Montreal and has been working as a sound engineer in both studios and venues.
For the last two years the two have been working diligently in their home studios. Apart from being heavily influenced by dance music from the early nineties, the duo share a love for seventies disco and soul. If you would ask the few insiders who have heard their recent productions, they would name acts like Daft Punk and Cassius as references. If you would ask Le Clic who their influences are they will probably opt for artists like First Choice or Curtis Mayfield as well as explaining how much they are into Grandmaster Flash, Stevie Wonder, Underworld and Roni Size. Musical purists they are certainly not! What makes Le Clic stand out from the pack are their live shows. Unlike many other dance acts or production duo s, Le Clic are determined to put their name on the musical map by conquering the live music scene before planning their first proper release. On stage, the pair are joined by VJ Yafit Taranto who adds a whole new dimension to their captivating live set with stunning visuals. They also mix all their tunes live on stage challenging each other with their technical skills and thereby assuring that their audience always gets to see and hear a unique live set. Whilst focussing on their live side, Le Clic will continue to produce great dance productions. Keep on the lookout for future releases and in the meantime be sure to check out one of their live performances.

Uplander
Name: Remko Spaaij
Born: 1979, Kota Bumi, Indonesia
Country: The Netherlands
Uplander was created in early 2002.The first tracks we're made with a large amount of melancholy. After a number of inner struggle it seemed only logical that some of that stuggling should have some reflection on how life had became now. Electric music from the soul was the result. Electric music was always something I was very much interested in so it was a natural pick of instuments.
As I have deep respect for several musicians like Kraftwerk, Green Velvet, The Horrorist, The Neptunes and many other influential formations, I can not deny that I have been influenced by them to a certain level. With the first tracks I tried to create an environment in which I could deal with myself in order to not have to communicate face to face with a person. The result is something to listen to that brings back those moments and by that a somewhat digestive form of experiencing the music that I make. It's like therapy. The Synth is my shrink. It gadually became something to feel satisfied by. I discovered that this is really my thing. It's me communicating in my own language.

3-1
3-1 is a live act which exist for 6 years now. It all began at art school in Maastricht and started to become more serious when few of us lived in a squatted hospital in Amsterdam. That was the base from where we were making the music and videoworks and where we created our own stage to perform by organizing parties/events. Its always hard to describe a style of music when its not really one or another but 3-1 started making breakbeat kind of music. After that new influences came from electro, reggae, punk and rock n roll, so in a way now it has little bits of all. To avoid miscommunications we call it pistol pop. Pistol pop because its explosive, live, entertaining, good to dance on and unpredictable like a bloody bullet, it’s a live and wicked.

The name Scaven
In 1994 I lived in a squat, where next to us, some posh students lived. One day they called me a dirty rat, and since my Chinese star sign is Rat, I didn't mind them calling me that. But a rat is much smaller than I am, I thought I must be a mutated rat then. In the squat where I lived, my housemates played Warhammer (an advanced version of Dungeons and Dragons) in which they regularly played with an army of mutated rats called Skaven. This suited me, and I took on the name Skaven. I thought that Scaven (with a C and not a K) looked better, and since then it's been my artist name.

DPI
Direct Positive Influence are Andries Rhebergen and P!eter van der Vegt. Pieter has been in to music making since the early nineties. Started out making bedroom productions with his amiga 500 and trackerprograms. After spending time in the hiphopscene ,doing lots of jamsessions and a few productions, the love for housemusic came back when he discovered tracks from afrika bombaataa, kraftwerk, phuture and fast eddie. Andries began playing hiphop in the mid 90's. At the end of the last century, he started visiting houseparties and buying techno records. In the next years, he played at several local parties using the name "Section5", together with his brother (dj Spilly). A few years later, after meeting eachother at the hiphopparties and jamsessions, they decided to start producing together. Their tracks combine many styles such as pounding techno with electro and acid, inspired by the grandmasters of the 80's. To share their feeling with the audience, they have produced their tracks for a liveperformance with the dancefloor in mind. The combination of mixing skills and diversity of tracks results in a banging live act!
