Biografie
He plays the talkbox, just like Roger "ZAPP" Troutman. He gives the sound of the eighties a new life, fills the room with his energy and gives new meaning to the word 'party'. I present you…Kubik LeFunk!
He grew up in a musical family. At a young age he danced along with his brother on the music of their great pop idol Michael Jackson. Urvin Roberto Monte proved to be a born entertainer and at the age of eight he already performed for large audiences, the beginning of a professional dance career that already spans more than 20 years.
Together with a friend, he started a hiphop group. With this group he performed throughout the Netherlands and participated in dance competitions. Urvin also taught dancing classes and created choreographies for numerous artists. Holland soon became too small for him and he was often seen 'on tour through Europe.
In 2004, Urvin auditioned for the Joop van de Ende hit musical Mamma Mia! It gave a new twist to his career. Later he starred in The Wiz, Hairspray, Legally Blonde and Daddy Cool by producer Albert Verlinde. For almost ten years now, he shines in the musical business, and was rewarded the Musical Award for Best Actor in the theatre show 5 Guys Named Moe. On television he appeared as a finalist in the dance competition 'My name is Michael' on RTL4. He also did television commercials for a Dutch telecom company KPN-Hi.
Blood is thicker than water. Urvin didn't want to limit himself to dance. Inspired by his father, he earlier wrote, produced and played r&b and soul music. He accepted readily when he was asked to participate in the creation of the r&b group RAW, a collaboration that led to the single "Catching Feelings". In 2009 he brought out under the name Urvin Roberto his first dance EP 'Like A Bird', on Leroy Styles' label.
The next step led him behind the turntables: the beginning of a career as a DJ. Kubik played in numerous clubs and not much later started to collaborate with DJ Real El Canario. Together they created a remarkable act that caused a sensation at festivals such as Beachflirt on Star Beach in Crete, Ritmos Del Mundo on Tenerife, several clubs in Italy, Spain and Eastern Europe. On Dutch soil they made name at Emporium, Mysteryland, Dance Valley, Day at the Park, Pleasure Island and Amsterdam Open Air.
His experience, charisma and enthusiasm have a positive effect on any stage, of which Kubik LeFunk is the center without any doubt. He knows very well how to captivate and please a crowd. The sets are groovy and dynamic and he's building up an even bigger fan base!
In the studio, he's preparing new beats and tracks that are a perfect accompaniment to his skills on the talkbox, something the public will experience first hand very soon.
Currently Kubik LeFunk is working on his first solo album. 'A great musical project,' he says, who refuses to go into too much detail for now. 'Just wait and see. In the meantime, visit the gigs and let me entertain you!'
