Biografie
The City stands for the eclectic, modern sounds brought together by people from all over the world. Who just happen to be at a certain place, going on a musical safari together. Rediscovering the old, combining with the new and looking beyond, for clarity and freshness!
City Safari Blue is a live band from Rotterdam, playing soulful, deephouse inspired beats, combined with jazzy chords. Their profound groove is not traditional at all, but with great respect for afro and latin rhythms and world/ roots music in general. Their music is intended to make people dance, laugh and party. Nothing pretentious, yet nothing superficial at all. Celebrating all different aspects of life, played from the heart and sung in English, Brasilian-Portuguese and Capeverdian language.
The key members consist of Camilo Silva (singer/percussion), Sowande Boksteen (keys), Roland Sie (bass) and Marvin Oron (guitar). Together with former drummer Carlos Fortes they released their first EP in May 2011, simply called 'CSB". They played at big festivals like Dunya (the major worldmusic festival in the Netherlands) and North Sea Jazz Roundtown ( the warmup festival for the prestigeous North Sea Jazz), as well as a lot of smaller venues and clubs with a more house/ dance orientated audience. They opened a show for deep house legend Peven Everett. A few songs of the E.P. were remixed by local and international producers, which resulted in 'CSB the Remixes".
In the meantime the band was still working hard on new material for their debut album. They recorded their songs at the Flowriders studio in Amsterdam. The studio with all its warm, analogue synths and equipment was a perfect match for the deep and organic sound the band was looking for. This resulted in the album 'Papaya", and the band had a succesfull local release in their hometown Rotterdam in November 2012.
