Biografie
Marloes Messemaker aka Mesloes is an illustrator and comic author based in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
She was born in The Hague, Netherlands on December 28th, 1990 and grew up in the young city of Almere. She briefly studied Graphic Design at ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Arnhem, which exposed her deeper interest in storytelling and illustration, leading her to switch to the Comic Design arts major at ArtEZ, Zwolle.
She graduated in 2016 with a graphic novel in which she explored themes surrounding the 'trickster' archetype, such as magic versus tricks, philosophy, psychology, spirituality, reality, hallucination, and taboo versus conventionality. The paradoxical themes of this archetype are key to Mesloes's work. This includes her portraits, comics and other arts, such as illustrations for The Funky Cat, a music platform which conceptually embodies a trickster-like character she designed.
The highest intention of her artistic endeavors can be summarized as "People experiencing syzygy".
