Biografie
Joost Reus, better known under his artist pseudonym Joshua Sphinx, is not your regular small town domiciled local party discjockey. Born in Noord-Holland, The Netherlands, Joshua has always been set out to be an artist in the broad sense of the word. At an age of only 14, Joshua got inspired to set out a creative journey in music once he heard 'Leave The World Behind' by Axwell, Ingrosso, Angello and Laidback Luke. As from that point in time Joshua decided that the thing he wanted most in his life was to be able to create musical pieces similar to this and share it with the world or anyone that would listen.
Joshua has always had a big affinity with creation, if it would be designing in Photoshop or editing video footage in After Effects, he has tried it. The only thing that limited his creative mind and realisation of his vision were the recourses he disposed of. Once he first saw a digital audio workstation in use, he was as astonished as excited about the infinity of possibilities these pieces of software have. No longer did he have to master an instrument or to be part of a group to create musical pieces.
Encouraged by positive feedback on his work by several well respected names in the electronic dance music world, namely: Laidback Luke, JoeySuki, Jordy Dazz, Moti and more, he signed his first recordlabel deal in July of 2012 at the age of only 17 years old.
Not only does Joshua create and present his musical work to the masses, as of february 2012 Joshua can be found behind the decks of clubs and festivals all around. Having shared the stage with names like La Fuente, Franky Rizardo, Michael Mendoza, Marc Benjamin and Billy The Kit, to name a few.
In mid 2012, Joshua's podcast 'Klobbin Top 15' (named after his first release 'Klob') was picked up by the internationally well respected online radio station Eclectic Radio, which turned the podcast into a radio show. Presented monthly, it was a refreshing concept for a radio show; instead of giving the crowd a DJ-mix with a random number and order of tracks, this concept created by Joshua was a Top 15 of tracks that had been released in the month prior to the show's broadcast. The show and podcast were discontinued in mid 2013.
In 2012, Joshua started to set up a project which would result in his very own record label, 'Sphinx Recordings'. The label has been under development from mid 2012 and is planned to launch, start signing artists and releasing music in 2014.
