Biografie
One day in Lincoln, Nebraska, Reuben de Groot decided that he wanted to start up a musical group. He spoke little English, and had only lived in the United States for a couple of months, but he believed that, through the power of music, he could conquer his greatest obstacles and achieve his greatest dreams. Reuben posted fliers all over town, and RSVPs began flooding in. Many talented musicians auditioned, but two in particular stood out.
One was Ahearn Quinn. Having lived in the British Isles for most of his life, Ahearn's posh personality and musical knowledge immediately set him apart from the rest. Ahearn skillfully played the timpani solo that Reuben challenged him with and built the best instrument of the day during the 30 minute instrument building part of the interview. With his musical prowess and unique style, Ahearn Quinn was a natural addition to the band.
Another was Piers van der Mäzen. Piers had recently moved to the United States as well, but he was a big name in the music scene of his native South Africa. As a member of the Mormon rock group "Quorum of the Four", Piers had performed at countless LDS meetinghouses throughout South Africa, and established connections with big-time musicians and musical groups, such as Dave Matthews, Civil Twilight, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (featured on some Going Dutch songs). With this experience in mind, as well as his honest-to-goodness playing style and blend of traditional Bantu, metal, and electronic musical styles, Piers was added to the group.
The group originally called themselves "Sharing the Pants", a reference to the famous British classical author and pianist. However, the group began moving away from their traditional punk rock roots, and delved into an entirely new and unexplored style of music that was completely their own. With their passion for music and innovative spirit, the band saddled up and rode into town known by two words:
Going Dutch
Since 2012, the band has gained Italian business mogul Fabio Vanzetti of Vanzetti Enterprises as full-time drummer, Davkas Wyrvenjack on the bass, Hans Klumpter on the bass, Deloign Carstairs on the bass, and The Zȫhn.
Ahearn Quinn is in a better place.
