Biografie
Music has always come naturally to Brussels-based techno artist Gabriella Vergilov. Having grown up in the small town of Tutrakan in a family of art and music aficionados, the Bulgarian-born artist was living and breathing music since she first started walking. Under the influence of her father, who founded the second recording studio in the small communist country, it wasn't long until Gabriella found out music was her true calling. Though initially she dreamt of becoming a singer, something that's stayed with her and is embodied in her rich vocal productions to this day. Though at the age of five, it was piano and ballet that shaped the young artist as a musician.
Fast forward 13 years and Vergilov relocated to Sofia to pursue other dreams, studying Culture and Art at New Bulgarian University. But instead of pursuing a career in art curation and publishing, Gabriella discovered Sofia nightlife and electronic music, thus changing her life forever. Having just whetted her appetite, the young Bulgarian couldn't get enough of the four to the floor beat, dancing relentlessly until the morning comes night after night. Soon after, she became involved in a local monthly night, called Blame at Sofia's leading club Yalta, giving her unique insight into the dance music industry.
After immersing herself in Sofia's vibrant clubbing, Gabriella relocated to Copenhagen, where the local underground scene ignited the fire of DJing and producing in her. Five years later Gabriella was ready for the final chapter of her DJing and music production training and embarked on a journey towards techno paradise, spending a whole year in the genre's promised land, Berlin. Regularly inhaling Berlin air helped the young artist find her own voice, honing her sound in the studio and in the booth day after day.
With a rich musical background and various influences like house, acid, techno, trippy Detroit aesthetics and funky uplifting Chicago grooves and rich vocal textures, it's no wonder Gabriella has such a distinct sound. Best described as melodic yet mysterious, her style is equally inspired by the the Detroit-to-Chicago family affair, as it is by cinematic music. It's exactly her passion for soundtracks that has brought a storytelling element to her underground sonic pursuits.
Crafting her intuitively curated sets to take the audience on a truly immersive sonic journey, the young Bulgarian native has already mastered the power of DJing. Serving as a
testament to her enviable prowess behind the decks, Gabriella has played the infamous Metropolis rave in Sofia, alongside Copenhagen's Culture Box, Brussels' Epicerie Moderne and Berlin's KitKat, Suicide Circus and Griessmuhle, Chalet.
Equally gifted in the studio, Vergilov landed her debut EP, Her Beginning, on Brooklyn-Berlin-based label THEMA only seven months after she made her first steps in music production. And with no other than Ben Klock banging the title track on the famed Berghain floor just a week after its release, the success of the record was imminent.
Support from DJ T-1000, Nicuri and many more followed suit, paving the way for Gabriella's eponymous EP. And just a few months later, Dustin Zahn's label ENEMY and Eric Cloutier's baby imprint PALINOIA noticed the young techno artist, signing her immediately. With two EPs coming on wax this year, it's clear the Brussels-based artist is yet to fulfill her true music potential.
